Have you drained your round lake water heater

According to the United States Department of Energy, “water heating is the second largest energy expense in your home. It typically accounts for about 18% of your utility bill after heating and cooling.” Why should you drain your Round Lake water heater? First of all, it can save you money because your tank will last longer.

Protecting Your Water Heater

When you drain your water heater, you remove sand, rust and other small particles. These substances can prevent your tank from working the right way and cause damage to the unit.

Most manufacturers recommend draining the tank every three months. Water heaters generally last for about 10 to 15 years. Here is how we drain our water heaters and expand the tank’s life expectancy. Before we do anything, we turn off the water heater. We do this for safety reasons and to protect the water heater.

Cut-Off Cold Water

Then, we cut off the cold water. There is a cold water valve that is sometimes located on a pipe that goes into the tank. It may be a blue clover-like valve. We do this to stop water from refilling the tank as we drain water out of the tank.

Turn-On Hot Water

Next, we will turn on the hot water facet in a room. When the hot water faucet is turned on, air enters the water tank. The air forces the water out of the unit promptly and completely.

Use Drain Cock

Find the drain cock. The drain cock is normally located at the bottom of the water heater. A hose is connected to the water drain cock. Our specialized drain hose is used to drain the water from the tank. At first, the water is cloudy, when the water is clear, we get ready to refill the tank.

Refill Tank

After we flush water out of the tank, we refill the tank. We close the drain valve or spigot valve. Then, we open the cold water supply pipe and add water to the tank. The water heater is turned back on and your unit is now working properly. These are the basic steps that our company use to drain water heaters for our customers.
