How To Handle A Plumbing Emergency

Emergency Plumbing

It is important for you to act quickly if you experience a plumbing emergency. If a plumbing emergency is handled within a short amount of time, then you will be able to prevent serious damage from occurring inside of your home. Taking care of a plumbing emergency in a timely manner can also save lives. Gas leaks, major water leaks, frozen pipes and burst pipes are some of the most common home plumbing emergencies.

A gas leak not only causes property damage, but it may also cause serious damage to your health. You will need to first turn off the gas. After that, you will need to open the windows so that you can ventilate the home as much as you can. You will also need to contact an emergency plumbing service.

If you are having a major water leak inside of your home, then you will need to turn off the water supply to the fixture that is causing the leak. You will also need to contact your emergency plumbing service.

A frozen pipe is considered a plumbing emergency because pipes expand when they freeze. If they expand, then they can burst. One of the most common signs of a frozen pipe is no water. If you turn on the faucet and do not see any water coming out of it, then the pipes could be frozen. You will to need turn off the main water valve.

It is not a good idea to try to thaw the pipes with a hair dryer or open flame. Both of these methods can be very dangerous. Contact an emergency plumbing service instead of trying to thaw the pipes yourself.

If your pipe has already burst, then you will need to turn off the main shutoff valve. This will help prevent the house from flooding. After that, you will need to contact an emergency plumbing service.
