Importance of a Plumbing Inspection

Plumbing Inspection

The importance of a plumbing inspection when purchasing a new home cannot be overstated. While everything may appear fine with the new home you are purchasing, it could have major problems that you may not be able to spot right away. A plumbing inspection can help you avoid the frustration and costly repairs that can arise later on when buying a new home.

So why is a plumbing inspection so important for new homeowners? To begin, many homes will have their water turned off until a person moves in. There will be no way to tell if there are leaking faucets in the home until you move in. A plumbing inspection will identify any leaking faucets, shower heads, and toilets and will allow you to quickly repair them. By quickly identifying and repairing leaking appliances you will conserve water and save money on your water bill. This is just one of the benefits of having a plumbing inspection done.

A plumbing inspection will not only check for leaks it will make sure that there is adequate drainage in tubs, showers, and sinks. A plumbing inspection will identify if there are any clogged drains and allow you to quickly repair them saving you the frustration of having to deal with them as you are moving into your new home. A plumbing inspection will also check if there is adequate water pressure to all of your appliances such as faucets, shower heads, washing machines, garden houses and water sprinklers. Adequate water pressure ensures that your appliances are getting enough water to function properly. The plumbing inspection will also identify any appliances or areas in your home that may have water backups possibly caused by broken pipes, or water cut off from them.

Perhaps the most important item that a plumbing inspection will check is your hot water heater. The inspection will check that the water heater is functioning properly and if it may need to be replaced due to age, mineral buildup or corrosion. It will also check that there is adequate hot water throughout your entire home and identify any problems. A plumbing inspection can help you avoid the surprise of suddenly showering with cold water or having no hot water in the winter time. If you have a septic tank, the plumbing inspection will check that the septic tank and septic pipes are in good condition and are functioning properly. An important thing to keep in mind, especially for older homes is that they could have lead pipes which may contaminate your water with lead which has been proven to cause health problems over time. A plumbing inspection will identify any lead pipes and other pipe problems such as burst pipes, sediment buildup and cracks.

A plumbing inspection will allow you to identify any plumbing issues such as leaks, inadequate drainage, burst pipes, and hazardous lead pipes before before you move into your new home. It will allow you to quickly address any plumbing issues, so you can move into your new home comfortably and without any unpleasant surprises appearing later on.
