Get rid of your leaky rusty creaky old pipes

How do I know if I need re-piping job or a pipe repair job?

Round Lake Plumber

The most reliable way to ascertain if your property requires a re-piping or a pipe repair job is to ask you plumbing professional to conduct an inspection and make a recommendation to you about this issue. You should use a licensed firm, preferably one that you have developed a business relationship with in the past: ask the opinion of a plumber whom you respect as well informed and honest.

If the re-piping involves a large expense, it may be necessary for funding purposes to have an independent inspection service prepare a report on the pipe situation also. Many real estate agents today will not accept market properties that contain polybutylene pipes; in that situation a re-piping by a qualified plumber may be necessary to place a home on the market at full price.

Will this affect my daily home routine?

Re-piping involves replacing existing pipes in the property with other types of pipe. By contrast, pipe repair generally involves fixing a leaking pipe. Obviously, pipe repair usually requires less extensive procedures. Unfortunately, in some situations a complete re-piping of the premises may prove more cost effective.

One significant factor in the ability of a plumbing professional to repair pipes, as opposed to replacing them, concerns the material used in the pipes. The “gold standard” for plumbing pipes today is still copper. Some experts estimate that copper pipes can perform effectively in most properties for a century. Copper is a very effective and safe material to use to form water pipes, although copper pipes cost a lot more than other kinds of pipes. Many plumbers today recommend new PEX piping as highly durable and less expensive.

Two types of household pipes may prompt a homeowner to request re-piping: galvanized steel pipes, which sometimes rust, and polybutylene pipes, which often leak.

Most plumbing professionals attempt to minimize the impact of re-piping as much as possible on affected residents. For instance, they may replace the pipe in sections, working in specific areas at designated times. However, the extent of the disruption sometimes varies based upon the severity of the problem.

How long does a re-piping job take?

Again, the length of a re-piping procedure may vary based upon many factors. The size of the property and the number of bathrooms and kitchens may impact the total time required.
