Plumbing Spotlight: Water Heater Installation & Repair
One of the most used pieces of plumbing equipment in your home is your water heater. There are some common issues that you will experience over time that could cause further damage if left untreated. Let’s go over these potential problems so that you will be able to recognize them early enough to get them under control, as well as have enough time to determine if you need repair or replacement.
Common Water Heater Problems
Leaking: In some cases, the water heater may overheat, causing the temperature and pressure valve to release more water into the tank. The pressure within the water heater itself will become too much and can cause the unit to leak. Lowering the temperature on the thermostat could solve the problem. A leak could also be caused by faulty pieces of equipment, such as gaskets and valves. Our technicians will replace these parts for you.
Discolored water: The anode rod inside the water heater can rust over time, causing discoloration in your water.
Unusual odors: You may notice that the water from the tap has a foul odor, similar to a rotten egg smell. This could be caused by a buildup of bacteria developing inside your water heater tank. The anode rod inside the tank releases a hydrogen gas, and bacteria feed on this.
Strange noises: Do you hear popping or whining noises coming from your water heater? This is most likely caused by the buildup of sediment at the bottom of the tank. If you live in an area with hard water, this is more likely to happen. Flushing out the tank and filling it up with a fresh supply of water should fix the problem. We recommend annual flushing to maintain a clean tank. The condition of your water softener system should also be checked to make sure it is performing efficiently.
Lack of hot water: This is probably the most obvious sign that there is something wrong with your water heater. If you have a gas-powered water heater, first check the pilot light. If the pilot light won’t stay lit, then a professional technician should be called to inspect the problem. If you have an electric water heater, there is likely a problem with the thermostat. Contact our technicians to repair or replace your faulty thermostat.
